Gilda the Good

Gilda the Good
Gilda the Good, 20X20, oil on panel, 2012
Gilda lived to the ripe old age of 13. She was part lab, part chesapeake, a very passionate, intense dog. She knew a lot of words, maybe because she had a lot of toys and needed to know their names. She seemed to make it her mission to know everything about Jim and me. I would wake up and discover her watching me, or look up from painting to see her gaze on my face. She knew what clothes I worked in and what clothes I went out in public in (these latter might mean a car ride for her).
I feel it is an honor to live with an animal, to share walks and play, car rides and gardening. It hurts to say goodbye.
